Restoring your Registration

If you wish to return to practice as a pharmacist or pharmaceutical assistant, and you have been previously registered with the PSI, you can apply to have your name restored to the register. You can apply to restore your registration in the PSI online registration portal. The portal contains instructions and information videos to assist you.

COVID-19 Emergency Restoration Process

As the COVID-19 situation evolved, the PSI was aware of the many challenges being faced by pharmacists and pharmacy teams, and the essential role that pharmacy played as a key frontline service ensuring the availability of medicines and continuity of patient care.

The Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Covid-19) Act 2020 introduced responsive emergency provisions, including a mechanism to quickly restore health professionals to Statutory Registers where a previously registered individual wished to assist and be available to work within the health system.

In line with these measures, a new restoration route was introduced to the Pharmacy Act, referred to as a Section 77 registration. This special measure came to an end on 30 June 2022, after several extensions by the Minister, since it was introduced in March 2020.

Registrants who has been removed from the register following the expiration of these special measures have the option to apply for full restoration or re-registration to the register through the normal existing processes. Details can be found below.

Restoration following voluntary cancellation

Pharmacists who have voluntarily cancelled their registration have the right to apply for restoration to the Register of Pharmacists, subject to the successful completion of a restoration process.

  • Not registered in the Register of Pharmacists for a period from 1 year to 3 years

Restoration following involuntary cancellation

Pharmacists involuntarily cancelled from the Register of Pharmacists for non-payment of fees can undergo a restoration process if this request is received by the PSI within six months following the due date of payment of the annual fee. You can do this online in the registration portal.

Re-Registration

Pharmacists removed from the Register of Pharmacists for non-payment of fees and who fail to make an application for restoration within the six month period following the due date of payment of the annual fee for continued registration, will need to apply to re-register through the first time registration process.

Pharmaceutical Assistants
