Overview
The PSI keeps and maintains registers of pharmacists, retail pharmacy businesses (pharmacies) and pharmaceutical assistants. These registers are published online and can be accessed on this website, via the ‘Search the registers’ button.
Pharmacists and pharmaceutical assistants must be registered in the registers kept by the PSI in order to practise. A pharmacy must be registered as a retail pharmacy business in the register kept by the PSI in order to open and operate.
A number of statutory rules set out in greater detail the procedures and requirements which will be operated by the PSI in carrying out its various functions relating to registration. These are the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (Registration) Rules 2008 and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (Retail Pharmacy Business) (Registration) Rules 2008.
Under the new system of registration provided for in Part 4 of the Pharmacy Act 2007, registered pharmacists, pharmaceutical assistants and pharmacy owners are required to apply for continued registration on an annual basis. Each registrant receives an annual certificate of registration. The certificates of a pharmacy and the pharmacy’s supervising pharmacist must be conspicuously displayed in the pharmacy.
You can contact the Registration unit by emailing registration@thepsi.ie or by phone (++353)(01) 2184000 should you require any clarification in relation to this process.
