Pharmacy Regulator Welcomes New Patient Safety Technology

November 17, 2008

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI), the pharmacy regulator, has welcomed the introduction to Ireland of an initiative to use new technologies to improve patient safety.

The new service launched today involves a partnership between Aegate, which has already launched this service in a number of other European countries, and McLernons, a software developer for the pharmaceutical industry.

This will allow Aegate's service, which provides real time safety information about medicines at the point of dispensing, to be offered to all pharmacies in the Republic of Ireland that currently have McLernons' pharmacy software installed.

PSI President, Dr Bernard Leddy, said, "Initiatives that have the potential to promote patient safety and support pharmacists to deliver high quality patient care are very welcome. The PSI looks forward to working with organisations such as Aegate that support the safety and quality of medicines delivered by pharmacies to patients."
