Human Papillomavirus Vaccine

Pharmacists providing information and increasing awareness about the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine

This September 2016 the HSE has been highlighting to parents the importance of protecting their daughters from developing cervical cancer by availing of the free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine which is being administered as part of the HSE immunisation programme in second level schools.

In an email to all PSI registrants in September, the PSI and HSE's National Immunisation Office (NIO) have highlighted important information for all pharmacists about the Human Papillomavirus vaccine, and the role that pharmacists can play in cancer prevention with the provision of accurate and factual information, and reassurance, about the vaccine. There is evidence that the recommendation of a known trusted health professional can lead to increased vaccine uptake.
