The purpose of this guidance is to support pharmacy owners, superintendent pharmacists and supervising pharmacists to plan and carry out a safe and effective offsite vaccination service.

While vaccination services are available onsite in many pharmacies, the extension of the service to offsite locations has the potential to greatly increase access to vaccines, and in turn increase vaccine uptake. It is important to note that currently this only applies to COVID-19 and influenza vaccination services.

Increasing access to the influenza vaccine and COVID-19 vaccines is a high priority to protect society, especially those most vulnerable in the community, and to help mitigate the impact on healthcare services over the winter period.

Offsite vaccination enables pharmacies to provide vaccination services to a greater number of patients by providing greater flexibility for service planning, and removing some potential practical barriers which may be in place due to public health advice.
