The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI) recently signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) so that we can continue to collaborate effectively and to ensure maximum efficiency and public health benefit as we carry out our similar public and statutory functions in neighbouring jurisdictions.

A recent meeting between the PSI Registrar Niall Byrne and Trevor Patterson, CEO of the PSNI, focussed on the common purpose of both regulators and a range of areas of mutual interest and concern. The formal collaborative approach in the MOU includes:

  • jointly co-operating and collaborating where suitable in the execution of our enforcement functions
  • co-operating as far as possible to ensure that we share pertinent regulatory information in a timely manner
  • working together to promote public health and safety in relation to engagement with pharmacists, and sharing information in the provision of guidance and the development of pharmacy practice
  • establishing close working relationships designed to minimise the impacts of Brexit on patients and services

The PSI works in conjunction with many organisations in carrying out our role and we have established MOUs with a number of organisations, which provide the basis for co-operation and collaboration on areas of mutual interest or concern.
