Results of election of pharmacists for appointment to PSI Council announced

Following the election process concluded today, 21 April 2023, the Returning Officer Joanne Kissane has declared the following four pharmacists as elected for appointment to the PSI Council.

  • Joan Peppard (Reg. No. 4720)
  • Mark Jordan (Reg. No. 12026)
  • Emily Kelly (Reg. No. 7066)
  • Denis O'Driscoll (Reg. No. 5673)

The Returning Officer will now give notice in writing to the Minister for Health of those pharmacists that have been selected. The Minister is responsible for approving all appointments to the PSI Council.

Today’s election count took place at the Office of the Dublin County Returning Officer, Unit 17 Tolka Valley Business Park, Ballyboggan Road, Dublin 11. Fifteen pharmacist candidates contested the election this year for the four pharmacist member vacancies arising on the Council this June.

In addition, in accordance with the PSI (Council) Rules 2008 and 2015, a panel will also be put in place for the filling of vacancies that may arise on Council. The list of those to be included in a panel is as follows, in decreasing order of the total number of votes cast for each candidate:

  • The PSI Council is the governing body (the board) of the PSI – the Pharmacy Regulator and it is made up of 21-members. The Pharmacy Act provides that some members of the Council are elected by registered members of the pharmacy profession in Ireland, others are nominated by specified bodies such as the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA), whilst others are selected on application through the Public Appointments Service. All Council members are appointed by the Minister for Health to act in the interest of patients and the public in the promotion of safe pharmacy practice in Ireland.
