August 19, 2013

Monday, August 19, 2013 - The PSI (Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland), the pharmacy regulator, along with partners in the pharmacy sector is to host a major international pharmaceutical congress that will see 3,000 international delegates come to Dublin.

Expected to be amongst the top five largest business events this year according to Fáilte Ireland and part of the Gathering 2013, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Congress takes place from August 31 until September 5 at the Convention Centre Dublin. It will feature sessions, symposia, workshops, discussions and exhibitions focused on global pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences.  Titled “Towards a future vision for complex patients – integrated care in a dynamic continuum”, the Congress represents €4 million in revenue to the Irish economy, before the added benefits of delegates’ families travelling and related tourist plans across Ireland are factored in.

Eoghan Hanly, President of the PSI, said: “The PSI is truly delighted to be jointly hosting this prestigious event, which last took place in Ireland 38 years ago.  Supported by the pharmacy profession and sector, the event presents a huge opportunity for Ireland and will be a real boon to the national economy this year.  We have been working with FIP, the local pharmacy representative bodies, the schools of pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, Government and other colleagues here and in Northern Ireland to make this 2013 FIP Congress a huge success.”

The Congress also features an Exhibition which offers a unique opportunity to display the services of industry partners, both global and local, from Sunday, August 31 until Wednesday, September 4.  In particular there will be a technology showcase featuring a number of innovative Irish and international start-ups providing cutting-edge products and technologies that are designed to enhance pharmacy and patient outcomes world-wide.

The annual FIP Congress attracts pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists and academics from around the globe to a week-long event to discuss a wide range of global healthcare and pharmacy topics, current trends in pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences and issues facing the profession.

The FIP annual Congress was held previously in Ireland in 1975.  For further information on the event and the programme, visit http://www.fip.org/dublin2013/.
