Call for New members of the PSI’s Disciplinary Committees’ Panel

April 25, 2024

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) protects the health and safety of the public by regulating pharmacists and pharmacies in Ireland, to ensure patient safety.

We are creating a panel from which vacancies on our three Disciplinary Committees will be filled over the next five years.

The PSI’s Disciplinary Committees comprise of a diverse range people drawn from differing backgrounds who meet to review complaints we receive about pharmacists, or pharmacies.

About PSI Disciplinary Committees

It is estimated that two million visits are made to pharmacies each month. The majority of people receive excellent care from their pharmacist, but concerns can arise. When this happens, PSI - the pharmacy regulator, is responsible for receiving, and if necessary, managing any complaint from a member of the public regarding a pharmacist or pharmacy as part of its fitness to practise process.

The PSI has three Disciplinary Committees, each may be involved in considering a complaint at different stages of a statutory complaints process which is set out in the Pharmacy Act 2007.

Prospective applicants do not need to have pervious disciplinary committee experience. You will be asked to describe how you meet the each of these six competencies:

  1. A commitment to serving in the public interest.
  2. A commitment to working collaboratively.
  3. An understanding of working within the constraints of a regulatory or legislative framework.
  4. An ability to analyse information critically.
  5. An ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders.
  6. A commitment to, and understanding of, equality, diversity, and inclusion; impartiality and fair treatment.

Training will provided by the PSI once appointed.

The PSI is committed to ensuring diversity and inclusivity across its panel members. Appointments to the committees are subject to the approval of the PSI Council. Committees members are entitled to a fee for their work.
