Advancing reform of the Pharmacy Act 2007

Since 2018, the PSI has been engaging with the Department of Health on advancing reform of the Pharmacy Act 2007 in the public interest. As part of this engagement a position paper was developed outlining the key challenges and weaknesses in the Act.

PSI position paper on the need for reform of the Pharmacy Act 2007 - April 2022

A position paper outlining the PSI’s position on the need for reform of the Pharmacy Act 2007 and the reasons why significant legislative reform of the Act is needed.

The paper outlines the Act’s key challenges and weaknesses which were identified through significant problem identification, analysis and desk-based research, and highlights some examples of regulatory tools and practices used by other regulators.

The next stages in advancing reform of the Act will involve the commissioning of in-depth research to inform the development of evidence-based policy proposals for reform. We look forward to sharing further updates on our progress in this area.
